Press Release
September 23, 2023
Today, Councilor Alejandra Bravo (Davenport, Chair of the Economic and Community Development Committee) and City of Toronto staff officially announced FitnessTO, a new fitness membership program that provides affordable and flexible options to fit people’s lifestyles, fitness levels and goals.
FitnessTO will provide greater access to locations offering fitness programs and services depending on the type of membership purchased, including access to more than 65 community recreation centers across Toronto that offer weight and cardio rooms, swimming lanes and group fitness programs. In addition, young people aged 13 are now eligible to purchase a membership. Participants age 60 and older and youth ages 13 to 18 will receive a 50% discount off the regular price of membership, day and multi-visit passes.
Three membership options are now available for residents and non-residents to purchase at Community Recreation Centers in monthly, three-month and 12-month (annual) options, along with new daily and multi-visit memberships. Membership options and pricing are available on the City’s Fitness website.
Members can track their health and fitness goals by engaging in self-paced exercise on more than:
- 65 places offering group fitness programs (including land and water)
- 40 fitness and cardio rooms
- 35 indoor pools with swimming lanes
Discounts and free recreation programs
Many community centers offer free recreation programs, including recreational swimming and programs for children, youth and older adults. Participants who attend the free centers have free access to city-provided, registered and drop-in programs, including fitness centers, cardio and gyms, swimming lanes, drop-in group fitness classes and aquatic fitness classes. More information about free resorts and lower-cost recreation options is available on the City’s free and lower-cost recreation options webpage.
Welcome annual credit policy
The Welcome Policy is a recreation fee subsidy designed to help individuals and families living in Toronto participate in the city’s recreation programs. Those receiving welfare (Ontario Works) and living in Toronto are pre-approved for this credit and should speak to a case worker or apply online. Toronto residents with a total pre-tax family income below the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) threshold can also apply for a Welcome Policy on the City’s Welcome Policy website.
